Trains and better public transportation

It's no joke that the United States is the land of the car. Yet consistently 'better transportation' is the most popular topic that has been reoccurring on Imagine Central Arkansas and with people I've talked to. You just have to look around, people want trains connecting our cities, and every time someone mentions it, they are getting a lot of votes: http://imaginecentralarkansas.ideascale.com/a/dtd/Trains/176635-19834 ...more »

Impact Fees - Make Sprawl Cover Costs Upfront

Institute meaningful impact fees to cover the cost of expanding city infrastructure to new greenfield developments. Low-density sprawl means higher per capita expense for police and fire coverage and more money on road, sewer, and water maintenance. What do we get for this sprawl? The inability to walk anywhere, more traffic, and no sense of community.

Green Revolving Loan Fund

Establish a Green Revolving Loan Fund to fund projects that will improve energy efficiency and transportation in Central Arkansas and also save the area money. These savings would then be put back into the Green Revolving Loan Fund (with interest perhaps) to help fund more projects. Examples: energy efficiency improvements in government/public buildings, LED street and building lights, protected bike lanes, creation ...more »

Ability to handle winter weather better...

Imagine Central Arkansas actually being able to handle snow/ice better by placing snow plows on the front of more city vehicles whenever winter weather in forecast - also imagine us knowing how to drive better in it....

Build a full loop around little rock and a new bridge

With talks about 10 laning Interstate 30 in downtown Little rock, the North and south loop freeways need to be built and build a new river bridge somewhere across the river in downtown or somewhere upstream. Little Rock should have built these things decades ago I don't know why it has not happen yet.

Emphasis on Local Food System

A strong local food system positively impacts the community's health, economy and environment. A plan to transition from the industrial scale food system to a healthier and more sustainable one is paramount to building a better future.

TRAFFIC LIGHT OR SPEED BUMPS

I would really like to see a traffic light put in at the intersection of Mississippi and Apache Road here in Little Rock, Arkansas. Or speed bumps on both in that area to slow drivers coming down that hill or up that hill. Better for stop lights to be put in - 1/2 the kids driving these days have NO IDEA how to proceed thru a stop sign (not a 4-way) a 2-way. Just because you are "crossing" the street and not turning ...more »

Bring in more better law enforcment and more jobs for everyone

Just found out that Little Rock is now #1 for dangerous cities list, meaning there should be more and better law enforcement and less corrupt cops who don't know the law and want to act like bullies to the good people instead of to the bad people like thugs and drug dealers. Also bring in more jobs for the youth, people with disabilities, and the rest who are qualified but still having trouble finding a job. Those things ...more »

Complete the North Belt Freeway Loop around Little Rock

This project needs to be built because one it is way past long overdue. Second it keeps all of the through truck traffic away from downtown and has more alternative routes for commuters.

widen kanis road in west little rock

Kanis road should be widen to four lanes from chenal parkway eastward because it is so narrow and barely does it have sidewalks. Kanis road is the alternative route of chenal parkway plus with all the growth along the street, traffic is only getting worse. Let's think ahead here

Create jobs for youth in the community

Ban self-service gasoline sales like Oregon & New Jersey have done and require pump attendents to be on duty, as both a fire safety measure, and one that would make these services available to the handicapped and disabled. Thousands of teens would get jobs pumping gas and washing windshields, getting valuable work experience and getting a regular paycheck while keeping them away from gangs and criminal activity.
